WELCOME TO THE MATTHEW MORGAN BACHELOR RACING INVITATIONAL

And we got a lot of racing to do, so let's get to it.
General Rules
- Try not to crash.
- Keep it clean.
- HAVE FUN

Day 1: The Round Robin
The first phase of the MBI consists of a "round-robin". The bracket is not a perfect robin, but efforts have been made to ensure drivers see a range of competitors throughout the tournament.
Teams
- Competitors are split into 5 teams of 4 drivers each.
- Teams are designated by colors: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Purple.
- Wristbands matching team colors will be provided for on-track identification during heats.
- Team standings will be tracked and made visible throughout the tournament on the standings page.
Seeding
- Matchups are distributed randomly, as qualifying rounds are not feasible.
- Each team will have one driver representing them per heat, with the exception of their bye round.
- Each driver will race in all four starting positions during the round robin to ensure fairness.
Rounds & Heats
- There are 6 rounds in the Round-Robin Phase.
- 5 Standard Rounds
- 1 Head-to-head Round
- There are a total of 25 heats across the 6 rounds.
- Each heat is 10 laps.
- Each driver will race in 5 heats during the robin phase.
Standard Rounds
-
Standard Rounds consist of 4 heats each.
-
Each round, one team will receive a bye, meaning they do not race in that round.
-
A different driver from each team will race in each heat, as indicated by the schedule.
-
Each team will have the opportunity to race from each starting position per heat.
EXAMPLE: Red Team starts on the pole in Heat 1, Blue Team starts on the pole in Heat 2, etc.
-
Each heat consists of 10 laps.
-
We don’t have any real way to track lap times or live positions so we will do our best to track laps and determine the results fairly.
The Head-to-Head Round
- The final round of the Round Robin is a head-to-head round where drivers compete directly against their teammates.
- All drivers will participate in the Head-to-Head round.
- There will be one heat per team, for a total of 5 heats.
- No passing points are awarded in this round to prevent strategic manipulation.
- Starting positions are based on the current standings within each team (or as otherwise agreed upon within the team).
Scoring
-
Points are awarded as follows:
-
1st Place: 7 points
-
2nd Place: 4 points
-
3rd Place: 3 points
-
Passing points are awarded to offset the disadvantage of starting from the back:
- 1 point per position gained.
Example: Driver A starts in 4th but finishes in 2nd. They earn 5 points for 2nd place plus 2 additional points for passing two drivers, totaling 7 points.
-
The maximum points a driver can earn per heat is 10. (Starting in last, finishing in first.)

Day 2: The Playoffs
Damn, all that was just the first day? Don't worry, the playoffs will be a little more straightforward.
Playoff Heats
- There are 5 heats in the playoff round.
- Each heat is 10 laps.
Seeding
-
All 20 drivers will be seeded into 5 groups based on their total points from the Round Robin.
-
In the case of a tie, drivers can flip a coin, play rock-paper-scissors, or arm wrestle to determine their placement.
-
Groups will be formed as follows:
Top and Bottom Placement:
The highest-ranked driver (Driver 1) and the lowest-ranked driver (Driver 20) are placed in Group A.
This pattern is continued, pairing the next highest and lowest ranked drivers sequentially in Groups B, C, D, and E.
Middle Slot Filling:
The remaining drivers are distributed to ensure each group is balanced. The drivers ranked from 6 to 15 fill the middle slots:
- Group A: Receives Driver 10 (middle-high) and Driver 11 (middle-low).
- Group B: Receives Driver 9 (middle-high) and Driver 12 (middle-low).
- Group C: Receives Driver 8 (middle-high) and Driver 13 (middle-low).
- Group D: Receives Driver 7 (middle-high) and Driver 14 (middle-low).
- Group E: Receives Driver 6 (middle-high) and Driver 15 (middle-low).
Balancing Competitiveness:
Each group is structured to include:
- One of the top five drivers (Drivers 1-5).
- One of the bottom five drivers (Drivers 16-20).
- Two drivers from the middle ten (Drivers 6-15), ensuring a competitive balance.
Final Lineups:
- Group A: Drivers 1, 10, 11, 20
- Group B: Drivers 2, 9, 12, 19
- Group C: Drivers 3, 8, 13, 18
- Group D: Drivers 4, 7, 14, 17
- Group E: Drivers 5, 6, 15, 16
Scoring
- Winners of each heat will advance to the championship round.
- Points will otherwise be awarded as in the Round Robin.

The Championship Race
IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS.
- The championship will consist of 1 15-lap heat.
- The five winning drivers from the playoff round will compete in the championship round.
- Winner takes all. The winner of the championship round will be crowned the MBI Champion.
- Drivers will be seeded based on their total points from the round robin, plus any additional points earned in the playoff round.
- In the case of a tie, drivers can flip a coin, play rock-paper-scissors, or arm wrestle to determine their placement.
